Ultherapy FAQs

Are you interested in improving the beauty of your skin to look more youthful and energetic, but have questions about Ultherapy treatments? Dr. Dalla and our team at Ora Dentistry want to answer any questions or concerns you may have about this non-invasive approach to treating aging skin. Here are some of the frequently asked questions about Ultherapy to give you more information.

Ultherapy uses ultrasound energy to stimulate tissues under the skin to increase collagen production without surgery or needles. This can help reverse some signs of aging in the face, neck and chest area, such as sagging skin.

Unlike laser therapy that only treats the skin or cosmetic surgery that cuts into the skin, Ultherapy is the only procedure that addresses deeper tissue under the skin without an incision. It also uses advanced imaging to target the specific areas to increase collagen production. It is not a surgery and does not have the risks associated with cosmetic surgeries like facelifts.

Ultherapy uses ultrasound energy technology that has been used for decades in medical procedures. This technology has been cleared by the FDA for treating lines, wrinkles and sagging skin. The ultrasound energy is targeted at the tissue below the skin to stimulate collagen production, which decreases as you get older. The collagen helps repair the skin to a more youthful appearance, tightening and toning the skin in the months following Ultherapy treatment.

Collagen is essential to keep the skin toned, elastic and vibrant. It is a protein that helps rejuvenate skin cells and keeps skin looking youthful. As production slows when you get older, the skin becomes looser, causing wrinkles, lines and a sagging appearance. Ultherapy stimulates more collagen to naturally turn back the hands of time on your skin.

Many people considering a facelift can get similar results with Ultherapy, but it is not the same. Facelifts elevate the skin and tissue manually, usually removing excess skin. Ultherapy is more of an uplifting of the skin but does not remove excess skin like in a facelift. However, there is no downtime or the risk of surgery.

The FDA has cleared Ultherapy for treating aging skin after many clinical studies for safety and effectiveness on thousands of patients. Ultrasound energy has been used safely for over fifty years and does not require any recovery after treatment. You can safely have Ultherapy on a lunch break from work and return to work after your treatment.

Ultherapy addresses the skin issues that are caused by lower levels of collagen in the skin as people reach their thirties, forties and beyond. When skin begins to droop around the brow and eyes, or the jowls sag or skin is loose under the chin, this is an ideal opportunity for Ultherapy. The increased collagen can help lift the skin and tighten these areas to feel firmer and look more youthful.

Increasing collagen in the skin through Ultherapy starts the process of rejuvenating the skin, but the results can take weeks, even months, to be fully apparent. While some patients report almost immediate improvement in their skin, it is usually after two or three months that the skin shows the most difference. The collagen can continue to repair and tighten the skin after Ultherapy treatment for up to six months.

In most cases, only one treatment of Ultherapy is needed, but some people may benefit from more than one or additional treatments to touch-up the results.

Ultherapy treatments can run from 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the area covered. A full-face treatment is usually about 60 minutes, while partial face or chest-only treatments run around 30 minutes.

Ultherapy is not painful, but most people can feel the ultrasound energy as it begins to stimulate collagen in the tissue under the skin. It can be slightly uncomfortable for some people, but the level of discomfort depends on the patient. Any discomfort is temporary and is a sign that the ultrasound energy is doing what is needed to spur the production of collagen to repair the skin.

Ultherapy is safe and requires no downtime after treatment. The skin can be flushed after treatment, but this fades within an hour. Some people may experience a slight swelling or tenderness in the treated areas, but this is only temporary. Dr. Dalla and his team will go over any possible side effects before your treatment.
